The first set was a battle as both players held their serve at the beginning. At 2-2 with Marcos Baghdatis (CYP,6) to serve, 0-30 and a first chance for Mario Ancic (CRO), but the Cypriote serves well and wins the next 4 points holding the serve. Later on at 4-4, after challenging a Baghdatis serve at 15-30, Ancic takes the break and his next service game to take the first set 6-4.
Baghdatis began to serve in the second set and from being 40-15 in front, with a double fault and accompanied unforced errors Baghdatis gives away the game and 1-0 with Ancic to serve. Nevertheless the defending “Open 13” runner-up Baghdatis still seems to hang in, as he saves another break point for the Croatian at 1-3 to hold his service game to go 2-3. With Ancic taking his service games comfortably, Baghdatis faces another 15-40 at 2-4 and with an aggressive return Ancic moves two breaks up 5-2 to serve for the match. Baghdatis hang in the game and 15-40 on Ancic serve for a chance to break back once. Ancic holding these breaks and another ad-in for the Cypriote, with two errors from Baghdatis and big serve from Ancic, the Croatian took the second set and the match 6-4 6-2 in 1h20 moving to the finals to play Andy Murray (GBR,4).
